Delhi being the capital of India holds a lot of cultural and political importance. It is the home of one of the best museums and memorials in the country. For people with an interest in history, culture, and heritage, these places make for the best tourist places. One can be surprised and learn a lot about different leaders of our country whose courage and contributions made our country what we are today. It is also a great place to take children so that they learn more about the heroes of our country.

Here are some must-visit museums in Delhi which offer knowledge and picturesque gardens, making them a fun outing spot!

1.   Nehru Memorial Museum and Library

The NNML is established in the memory of Jawaharlal Nehru (1889 – 1964) who was an Indian Independence activist and the first prime minister of India. The main components include the memorial museum, the Centre for Contemporary studies, the library, and the Nehru Planetarium. It is rich in collections of photos, journals, and short films.

The museum is well maintained and is a great place for some nice pictures!

2.   Gandhi Smriti

Formerly known as Birla Bhavan or Birla House, Gandhi Smriti is a tribute to honorable Mahatma Gandhi who was a politician, Indian lawyer, and social activist. The museum aims to communicate the mission, life, and purpose of Gandhi’s life through educational and cultural programs. This is the location where Gandhi Ji spent the last 144 days of his life and was assassinated on 30 January 1948.

3.   Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum

This location was the residence of the former prime minister of India, Indira Gandhi. After her assassination in the house, the place was converted into a museum. It consists of a collection of photographs, newspaper articles, and clippings related to her childhood, Nehru Gandhi’s family, and her assassination.

The museum is surrounded by a beautiful garden where one can hear speeches by Mrs. Gandhi.

4.   Ghalib Museum

The Mirza Ghalib Museum in New Delhi is on the life of the 18th Century poet Mirza Ghalib. It consists of pictures of Ghalib’s residence, his items of clothing, habits, and food habits. The site also includes paintings, seals, and coins dated to the time of the Mughals. Ghalib’s poetry and other artworks are also on display.

5.   Doctor Zakir Hussain Museum

The Zakir Hussain Museum has been built after tremendous efforts to showcase the life of Dr. Zakhir Hussain. He was the third president of India and a great visionary who contributed a lot towards spreading the importance of education. He had a great involvement in the famous Jamia Millia Islamia.

The museum displays a lot of his belongings, photographs, mementos, and awards.

6.   Indian War Memorial Museum

The National War Memorial (India) is a statue built to remember and honor the martyr’s soldiers of the Indian military who sacrificed their lives during the conflicts of Independent India. The names of the armed forces killed during the operations are inscribed on the walls of the memorial with golden letters.
