Whenever it comes to living healthy, most of us regard ourselves as procrastinators. We make goals, set schedules, and end up giving up after a week or so. Our mind makes up excuses for not following the plan. We set up these unrealistic specific goals and define them as a success. And when we aren’t able to see the results, we judge ourselves.
What we need to understand is that making quantifiable goals and daily sheets are only going to consume our brain. We have to come up with easy and simple ways to make changes in our life, thus achieving our long term goals. The key is to measure your growth instead of numbers, which will ultimately makes you lose patience.
The last Journey would like to share some things that you need to know to live a long and healthy life.
Be Physically Active.
Exercising and, in general, being physically active will help you keep your body and mind healthy. If you set up goals such as running 5 kms every day, you may end up quitting. But if you decide to make smarter choices such as going for a simple walk or playing a sport you like or even dancing, you will be able to incorporate a much healthy lifestyle and thus making you live longer.
The importance of being active can’t be emphasized enough. It will help avoid chronic conditions such as heart diseases and diabetes and will keep your mind healthy due to the release of mood-boosting hormones in the brain.
It’s impossible to live a long life if you don’t eat healthily. Substituting junk with a nutritious snack can go a long way. It’s better to stay away from an excess of alcohol, sugar, and meat. Make sure to include a lot of fresh fruits, green vegetables, whole grains, legumes, seeds, and nuts in your diet.
Having a healthy diet will reduce the risk of early mortality, protect brain health, and decrease the possibility of cancer, heart disease, respiratory illness, and diabetes.
Yes, that’s right! Although we all love to sleep, what’s important to keep in mind is to sleep an appropriate amount and at the right time. A seven to eight sound sleep at night will not only help you stay fresh but will also help in having a long healthy life.
Research shows that napping during the day can help reduce stress hormones, thereby preventing heart diseases. Just make sure to not doze off at work!
Multiple studies show a clear link between strong social ties and longer life. Because of this, it’s wise to maintain a healthy and happy social life. Spend time cultivating relationships with your family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. You can also volunteer in activities and competitions to engage with more people.
Also, it’s okay if you don’t like socializing much, just having a few social ties can protect you from mental and other illnesses.
