How to heal from grief and loss of loved one
The sorrow that comes with the loss of a loved one is known as grief. Dealing with it is one of the hardest things, and prolonged periods of sadness can lead to depression. It creates feelings of shock, confusion, anger, yearning, guilt, and much more. Though the sadness and pain eventually diminish with time, grieving is an imminent part of healing and allows one to embrace the time spent with the loved one.
The process of grieving is a personal experience. Depending on your personality, life experiences, coping mechanisms, and how important the lost one was to you, you may experience different feelings. It may take you weeks, months, or years to cope up. What we need to understand is that there is no right or wrong way to grieve, and there is no timetable for grieving. You are allowed to take your team and deal with things gradually. Though there is no quick fix, the Last Journey suggests certain things you can do that will surely help you in the process.
1. Accept the feelings, and don’t rush.
The first thing to do is to come in terms with what you are feeling. You can start by letting your feelings out and talking about them with friends and family. Suppressing your emotions or not talking about them can cause further emotional damage, which may then stay with you. Try to find a safe place by either sharing, reading about it, praying, or meditating.
2. Take care of yourself physically and emotionally.
Eating well, sleeping enough, hydrating, and being active are some of the things which will help your body deal with grief. In regards to your mental health, whenever you feel ready try to fill the gap or the void with other things. It can either be by spending quality time with your loved ones or taking up a new activity that you enjoy. Redefining your life will help you complete the emptiness.
3. Help others in dealing with loss.
It is a good idea to help others deal with their loss. When you try to help others, you start to gain the strength and wisdom that is required to move on from the pain and grief. It also helps you feel more empowered and connected with others going through the same emotions.
4. Take Professional Help.
As we discussed, feeling grief is a highly individual process, and many times we may not be able to cope up with the pain. In such situations, one can consider talking to a mental health professional. They help people build resilience and develop strategies to get through it.
Just remember that you are not at all alone and have the faith that you will get out of it.
