With the boom in technology and digitization of content, more awareness and discussions regarding mental health are taking place. The negative taboo that revolved around therapy or depression has started to take a shift and is moving towards a positive change. Since more and more discussions being held, it becomes important to understand the true meaning of good mental health and ways in which we can practice it in our daily lives. 

Having good mental health does not mean that one will not go through stress, anxiety, disappointments, and sadness. Just as physically healthy people bounce back from illness, a mentally strong person will be able to bounce back from hard times. Trying to maintain the balance is the way to go. 

Here are some simple but powerful steps to take care of your mental health – 

     1. Do something besides watching Netflix

After a tiring day of work, we tend to get glued to our tv screens and binge-watch only to end up feeling more tired and guilty. It is essential to understand the power of direct contact with other people and not neglect our real-world relationships. Even small amounts of spending time can boost health. You can even invest your time in other activities such as coloring, reading, or journaling. Creativity is directly related to happiness.

     2. Some Physical Activity to Release the Negative Energy

Our bodies were made to move and use it to do work. You don’t have to go to the gym or stress yourself about this. Simply choose any activity that you like and that uses both arms and legs, such as walking, running, swimming, or even dancing. These activities release happy chemicals in the brain, which promotes mental well-being.

     3. Practice Mindfulness

Well, you may be thinking that doing this will involve sitting down to meditate or taking out time each day, but instead, it just means properly focusing on whatever task you are doing. Devote all your thoughts, and energy to each task, be it working, exercising, eating, or drinking water. Our mind tends to wander, which ultimately leads to overthinking. Hence practicing mindfulness will not only allow you to be more efficient, but you will be able to live a full life.

      4. Have Good Meals

Whatever we eat directly affects our brains. You don’t have to starve yourself or say no to carbs. Eating everything in appropriate amounts will nourish your body and mind. Carbohydrates tend to have a calming effect on your mood, protein-rich foods increase dopamine, which helps you stay alert. Fruits and vegetables are loaded with nutrients that ultimately affect the mood-regulating brain chemicals. 

     5. It’s okay to Take Help

All of us are a part of society. The only way to move forward is to help and take help. If you feel your mental health is stopping you from moving forward in your celebrate life, you can take help from your family, friends, or a professional therapist. It can help you understand yourself better and resolve the issues that affect your mental well-being.
