While life is unpredictable, what we need to realize is that much of it is in our control. It is only when we accept this that we will start to live fully and take care of our mental and physical health. When it comes to living a longer life, we can do a lot to add those healthy extra years. Our lifestyle, including exercise habits, our social life, and the right foods, play a crucial role. Though all practices need to be maintained, eating the right foods will not only help you live longer but also will allow you to live a fit and healthy life. Here are some foods that will help you live a longer life.

1- Nuts.

Well, haven’t we all been constantly reminded by our parents to eat the nuts? Nuts are a source of all the good nutrients including, proteins, healthy fats, fibers, and minerals. Eating nuts reduces cholesterol and leads to a reduction in the risk of heart disease. Though they have high-calorie content, eating them in the right amounts is associated with lower body weight. 

2- Leafy Greens.

Leafy greens like kale, spinach, collard greens, or lettuce are the smartest food choices one can make. They are associated with reduced risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and many other illnesses. The greens have a rich amount of antioxidants that have an anti-inflammatory effect on the body. 

3- Onion and Garlic.

Many items in our daily Indian food have good health benefits. Onion and garlic are a few of those. They contain immune-enhancing compounds that help prevent cancer and diabetes. They are also rich in nutrients such as Vitamin B, C, and potassium. Since they help reduce cholesterol, they are linked to a reduction in the risk of heart diseases. 

4- Olive Oil.

Olive oil contains a large number of antioxidants and is rich in healthy fats. Studies have shown that it reduces the risk of stroke and heart disease due to the presence of micronutrients called phenols. Olive oil is a staple in the Mediterranean diet and has successfully proven to lead to a longer life. 

5- Berries.

Berries such as blueberries and cranberries are rich in antioxidants, immune-boosting compounds, and phytonutrients. They not only help combat diseases such as cancer, but they are also good for the brain. Research has also found that people eating flavonoid-rich food such as red wine and strawberries are at reduced risk of mortality.

6- Green Tea.

Green tea has various health benefits including improving metabolism, regulate blood pressure, and improve cardiovascular health. It not only aids fat loss but also prevents the brain from aging. It is a staple in the Japanese diet and has shown proven effects.
